This can be performed entirely online. If you have not attended Rio Hondo or if it has been 2 years since you last attended, you must complete a new Admissions Application. If you are already a Rio Hondo College student you can skip to Step 2.
Note: returning students (have previously attended Rio Hondo College but did not attend the last primary term) must re-apply here.
You are highly encouraged to apply for admission in ASAP to permit you to register for classes. Classes fill or are cancelled due to low enrollment (students wait too long to register).
Once you have applied for admission. You are provided a student ID. This is different than your Social Security Number. Once you have your student ID, you can proceed to register for class. Spring Semester 2023 registration is now open . Remember, all GIS classes are either hybrid or online. You can register entirely online. See here for more registration dates.
Log into AccessRio and register for classes.
New students and returning students must register for classes on AccessRIO by selecting the "Welcome to AccessRio" login icon. Instructions are provided on the page. After logging in, go to the "Student" tab and then "Add or Drop Classes." If class is full, you can be placed on the wait list (register early!)
Check "Registration Important Dates" on the website for add/drop dates. It is the student’s responsibility to register in each class and drop the classes you do not want.
If a prerequisite and or coerequisite is required, you will not be permitted to register until requirement is cleared or if you have succeeded in completing GIS120 at Rio Hondo. Students attempting to enroll in a course requiring a prerequisite and or coerequisite and have not taken GIS120 at Rio Hondo College will need to submit documentation. You have two options you can do right now easily:
Students are required to register (no cost) for “Open Lab” titled “NVOC 018 - ACEDD-GIS Skills Development” (Instructor listed is Caesar Hernandez CRN 35946 Spring Semester 2023). This is a zero unit class at no cost to you; however it is required in order to be provide you resources including Esri Accounts, access to lab and technology.
Tuition (as of Fall 2020) is $46 Per Unit (Resident). Most classes are 3 or 4 units. Additional fund requirements are itemized below. Please refer to this page for updated costs.
Fees are not required when you register but needs to be paid before semester begins. Note: for some classes, (not GIS) you may loose your seat and snapped up by someone on the wait list if you do not pay before date.

Campus high tech labs will be used for on campus hybrid courses. Software is provided to you to install on personal computers if requested.
All GIS courses are Canvas enhanced. Material for class will be posted and submitted online regardless if you are an on campus student or online student. After registering for class, you should have access to virtual college after 3 working days. Please update your personal information (profile picture, email, etc.) once you can login to Canvas.
Canvas is your virtual classroom where we provide you the lessons, links, quizzes, class resources and you return to submit your deliverable for the lessons regardless if you are an on campus or online student.
You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view material online and is free for download and install (you likely have it installed already).
An Esri Organizational Account will be provided to you after the second week of classes. The organizational account provides you access to course data for lessons.
Spring Semester 2023 courses are either hybrid however you have the option to attend via zoom. Semester starts January 28th. Check schedule for exact date class material is accessible Please be sure to attend first day of class or risk being dropped from course. Notify assigned instructor in the event you are unable to attend. Subsequent meetings will be recorded for those unable to attend and faculty will be available for one on one support for lesson support. Several optional field exercises will be offered to students throughout the semester.
