What is GIS

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts GIS occupations will see growth rates ranging from 16% to 25% for GIS Mapping Technicians between 2010 & 2020. Geospatial technology (GST) includes geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and surveying, and is taught in courses at the Rio Hondo College using curriculum guided by advisory boards and professionals in GIS for practical and applied users in most disciplines.

GIS is a horizontal technology as reflective of our students including LAPD, County Sheriff to local fire, Department of Health, Public Works, Parks and Recreation to Education, Assessor, Children Services and many local cities. Courses are conveniently scheduled with low fees and easy to register with guidance on these pages. If you are on a mobile, note you can navigate the pages upper right
