STEP ONE

Apply for Admission to Rio Hondo College

This can be performed entirely online. If you have not attended Rio Hondo or if it has been 2 years since you last attended, you must complete a new Admissions Application. If you are already a Rio Hondo College student you can skip to Step 2.

  1. If you are a new student please make an account with the CA Community College system here to make an account.
  2. Next, as a new student you will apply for admission to Rio Hondo College here: http://www.riohondo.edu/admissions/apply-for-admission

Note: returning students (have previously attended Rio Hondo College but did not attend the last primary term) must re-apply here.

You are highly encouraged to apply for admission in ASAP to permit you to register for classes. Classes fill or are cancelled due to low enrollment (students wait too long to register).

STEP TWO

Register for Course

Once you have applied for admission. You are provided a student ID. This is different than your Social Security Number. Once you have your student ID, you can proceed to register for class. Spring Semester 2023 registration is now open . Remember, all GIS classes are either hybrid or online. You can register entirely online. See here for more registration dates.

Log into AccessRio and register for classes.

New students and returning students must register for classes on AccessRIO by selecting the "Welcome to AccessRio" login icon. Instructions are provided on the page. After logging in, go to the "Student" tab and then "Add or Drop Classes." If class is full, you can be placed on the wait list (register early!)

Check "Registration Important Dates" on the website for add/drop dates. It is the student’s responsibility to register in each class and drop the classes you do not want.

Are you registering for a class with a prerequisite or coerequisite?

If a prerequisite and or coerequisite is required, you will not be permitted to register until requirement is cleared or if you have succeeded in completing GIS120 at Rio Hondo. Students attempting to enroll in a course requiring a prerequisite and or coerequisite and have not taken GIS120 at Rio Hondo College will need to submit documentation. You have two options you can do right now easily:

  1. (best option) Email claudia.romo@riohondo.edu to obtain waive form on condition that your challenge meets the prerequisite/corequisite to succeed in the course despite not meeting the prerequisite.
  2. Eventually you need to provide transcripts or other support material (work experience) to the Counseling Office (or call if you cannot visit campus) so you can obtain the credit for the GIS certificate (if pursuing) and have the classes permanently waived.
